What Say You Now Sarah Brady?

No_tress_1 Turns out Mad Max is real.

I never thought otherwise, but now everybody must face it.

President Bush gets a "D" for the last 48 hours. His comments and visible leadership were simply lackluster.

But the disaster response is not his fault, just happened on his watch. It is the fault of the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans. The former was initially close to tears and the latter comes ascross as a raving lunatic. This calamity should not have remained under local control (sic) one minute after the first looters were spotted. Besides, people had ample warning to get out; they didn't.

I don't wanna have time for mankind's goodness, charity and generosity; telling the cancer patient his toothache is better is a waste of breath.

Local law enforcement and military units in the Louisiana and Mississippi should have been federalized immediately and the rules of engagement brief: Shoot to kill.

No Miranda, no warning shots, no arrests, no public defenders. Violent perpetrators and looters should be killed on sight... yeah, yeah, yeah I'm not talking about food and beverages... that's survival not looting.

There is some question (no doubt debated at this moment by $500-an-hour lawyers over lattes in New York City) about the legality of the martial law declared by the New Orleans mayor. I don't care what it's called, there should be a new sheriff in town. And here he is:

R416012292_2 One sheriff has already taken the necessary action. He's deputized 150 citizens, armed them with rifles and stationed them along the parish line adjacent to New Orleans. If you come here to loot, he said, you will die here.

Here in Gainesville Texas, north of Fort Worth, a few refugees have already arrived. One local resident reported that a relative in one of the stricken areas was protecting his residence from roving thugs with his shotgun. She was concerned about his supply of ammo.

That's about a straight as it can be said. This is the New Frontier folks. This is anarchy. These wastes of skin who have been preying on their fellow citizens, raping and killing, were with us long before the the hurricane. The storm just flushed them out of the sewers and into the open.

(THIS JUST IN): Lt. Gen. Steven Blum of the National Guard said 7,000 National Guardsmen arriving in Louisiana on Friday would be dedicated to restoring order in New Orleans. He said half of them had just returned from assignments overseas and are "highly proficient in the use of lethal force." He pledged to "put down" the violence "in a quick and efficient manner."
......
Across the city, law and order broke down. Police officers turned in their badges. Rescuers, law officers and medical-evacuation helicopters were shot at by storm victims. Fistfights and fires broke
out Thursday at the hot and stinking Superdome as thousands of people waited in misery to board buses for the Houston Astrodome. Corpses lay out in the open in wheelchairs and in bedsheets. The looting continued.
Gov. Kathleen Blanco called the looters "hoodlums" and issued a warning to lawbreakers: Hundreds of National Guardsmen hardened on the battlefield in Iraq have landed in New Orleans.
"They have M-16s and they're locked and loaded," she said. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will."

Recovering after a very weak couple of days, Gov. Blanco is now talking like Mad Max and it's about damned time.

Some kid named Jabbar got tired of waiting for the bureaucrats to get out of their meetings, so found a New Orleans school bus and the keys, drove around picking up terrified residents; they pooled their money, got gas and took off for the Houston and the Astrodome... eight hours and 350 miles. It didn't matter that a bean counter told him his bus "wasn't scheduled" and they would not be allowed in at first... Jabbar probably saved a number of lives.

The kid no doubt saw Mad Max.

So... this is a grim preview of what a terrorist dirty bomb or bio attack would be like... only tens of thousands of times worse. Four years later we are not ready; four years later we are more vulnerable than we could have possibly imagined. This isn't Bush bashing... this is us... U.S.... us bashing.

We are weak, soft, overweight and pampered. We've forgotten how to be self reliant, self sufficient and responsible. I'm not suggesting all this is the victim's fault in general or especially and specifically not the children, the aged, the ill or infirm, but from the top down New Orleans failed as a government, as a community, as individual citizens.

A man in New Orleans killed his own sister of a bag of ice... think about that. Americans killing Americans in the midst of our greatest natural disaster.

So, just like we entered the Post-9/11 World, we have now entered the real world that lies in wait in every American city of any size... the gangs and the drug dealers and the poverty pimps and the sociopaths and the rapists and the child molesters are only minimally held in check by men and women we pay niggardly to protect us.

Katrina simply lifted the lid of the cesspool that swirls around us in almost every city in the country. Subhumans control great sections of LA, San Francisco, Detroit, Dallas, Chicago, where they outnumber and outgun the cops.

These pockets of lawlessness are the direct result of Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" programs which taught multiple generations of poor Americans that the federal government would house them, feed them and provide health care while they did nothing for themselves. The bankrupt policies of the 60s destroyed the black family structure which in turn produced crime at levels that were unimaginable not so long ago.

The last three days have graphically proved that there's a war in our inner cities, and we're losing it. Not only are we fighting foreign terrorists, were fighting domestic terrorists.

If you have a gun... practice. If you don't, get one.

That is why nearly everyone is advocating shooting the looters on sight.

Quick, unscientific observation:

Yesterday's looters are today's muggers/rapists/robbers/snipers.

Pick any four.

Thoughts?

I myself keep my 1911 with 6 HP rounds and a backup mag that is loaded with 6 FMJ rounds incase a door is in my way, so I guess I'm reasonably prepared if they try that crap in Houston.

That said, I don't think they will. Maybe we have civilized them somewhat? From what I have heard the conditions in Houston are remarkable. I will find out for myself when I go down to help out tomorrow evening. It will be a regular Friday and Sunday evening thing for me for the forseeable future I think.

I agree completely, shoot on sight, but please put the looter in one category. No one should be allowed to say that Blacks are "looters" and Whites are "food hunters".
This I do not accept!

Anyway...just saw this despicable response from our *wonderful* celebrities:

Thanks for putting all the facts clearly. Have been thinking the same thing, just unorganized.

Our other Mobile friend is just fine...grandmother's house was destroyed. She's "down to her last Pop Tart," but fine.

Oh yeah...I'm from Texas also. But you know this.

Are all your readers Texans?
I for one welcome these folks to Texas. I'm sure they will blend right in. We already know they like firearms. Thats something we have in common. Of course I'm a better shot than those folks on TV.
By the way, we will probably have enough folks to send to Colorado too. We wouldn't want you folks to feel left out.

Howdy, just found your site courtesy doc Russia (and look! There he is!! ^ Howdy!) First, excellent post on Katrina/looting/appropriate response. You and our favorite medical student have both hit the nail on the head. I'm in Dallas myself, and in my line of work have begun seeing some medical refugees from NO, but nothing I see as a security risk (yet). I am simply stunned at the lefty crap I am reading, and think that 'you loot, we shoot' is an excellent policy - not to save crap that is mostly insured anyway, but to keep order (I'm sure a couple of bullet laden corpses floating around would send the message); however, I wonder what would have happened to our fearless Max Max if that policy had been in place, and he had been seen? Kind of scary.
Anyhoo, I've been reading more of your site, and have you bookmarked for more.

ps, re: VietNam, thank you.

I'm about a ten minute walk from the astrodome. When I heard someone say that "things were getting tight" in there, I got up from the couch, grumbled, walked over to the closet, and loaded alternating #4 and #00 buckshot.
Welcome to Texas. We don't tolerate that shit around here. In all honesty, I am sure that the crime rate in my immediate vicinity will rise in the next few weeks. That said, I am plenty prepared for most situations, not the least of which is dispatching armed marauders.
We already have heard an increase in the number of sirens in the area. It might be subjective only, but it seems like it happens more often. We will be ready. Improvise. adapt. Overcome.

The lawlessness shames us all. It is a great thing that order will return. W's grade wouldn't be as low if it weren't for the 24hour news cycle. God bless the kid that commandeered the bus.
