At times over the last four days Sam Alito was in danger… of being bored out of his skull. I know I was.
A pragmatic man, he knew that this was the price he would have to suffer in exchange for rising to the Supreme Court, but even he must have been astounded at the absolute emptiness of the democrat opposition.
Even at best such Senate hearings are nothing more than kabuki theater, a staged opportunity for the pompous to posture. Accordingly, no arena is more fitting for the likes of Schumer, Kennedy, Biden and their ilk.
The time-honored concept of the loyal opposition is lost on the democrat party which continues to be whipsawed by the far left. George Soros’ millions mean far more to dem leadership today than the nation; at every turn they choose the quest for power over what is best for their country.
Now that the old media is in disarray and can no longer present uncontested the democrat agenda as news, the wheels continue to come off the party has been overtaken by the likes of Air America, Michael Moore and Harry Bellefonte.
No reasonable person could vote to deny Judge Alito the appointment; the confirmation vote will further reveal those who are not.
Speaking of dolts, Pat Robertson has once again thought better of his remarks and tried to reel them back in. It doesn’t go over well, claiming that God goes around smiting people with strokes when he doesn’t like their politics… as if Robertson has a direct line to The Man.
A few weeks ago the White House was highly irritated when Robertson suggested that we should whack Venezuelan commie, Hugo Chavez. This allowed Hugo to buddy up even closer with Fidel who we did try to whack once upon a time.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to see both of them gone tomorrow, but you don’t go around the national stage talking about it. Just like Jesse Jackson, Robertson’s sun has set; they are merely tolerated for who knows what reason… I suspect they exist solely because of the endless need for talking head spots on cable TV programs.
They’re both charlatans… and I’d much rather answer for my life (such as it is) than theirs.
Apparently the dems are marshaling a crop of military veterans as candidates for the ’06 congressional elections.
According to The Rothenberg Political Report, “More than three dozen non-incumbent veterans are running… all but a small handful of them as Democrats.”
Military experience as a political resume padding doesn’t appear to warrant such strategy. Sure, generals (Grant, Ike) have made that transition to the White House, but just as often the stars made no difference (MacArthur, McClellan).
I suspect that after being introduced on the rubber chicken circuit for a year or so as a veteran, the purpose has been served. John Kerry, for example, tried to insist that three months in ‘Nam made him presidential; people laughed at him.
In this “vets to the front” move, the dems remind me of the people who buy gold now that its at record prices… more than a little late. With absolutely no vision for America, no plan, no goals, the best they can do is mimic what has worked for the GOP in the recent past… patriotism, traditional values, faith.
But it’s like Hillary! running as a moderate… no one except the Kool-Aid drinkers buy it for a minute.

Welcome back.

I certainly hope that any Democratic candidates are not of the same ilk as Murtha.

Good to see you back, by the way.

You're right; Robertson, like Jackson, is obsolete. Robertson is a black stain on the Republican Party that'll stick around no matter what -- if you watch, he's one of those thrown in the faces of conservatives as representative of the party.
The difference between Robertson and Jackson, though (besides the obvious) -- Republicans frequently denounce and discredit Robertson whereas Jackson is embraced and hailed by Democrats.
We dump our garbage. Dems stockpile theirs.

In an all-out blatherama contest, the Judiciary Committee Dems even got bested by a...God forbid...Republican at the Alito hearing yesterday in wholesale, non-question-asking, pontificating, utterly boring hot air. John Stewart's THE DAILY SHOW ran a segment timing just how far into their gasbagness 4 Senators would go before actually asking Alito a question. And the winner was?....
Lehy? nope
Biden? nope again
Tide Pool Ted? nahhhh
DeWine (R-Ohio) Bingo!! Took nearly 10
min for him to
cough up a question
I think Mrs. Alito was nearly moved to tears again out of sheer boredom this time.
Biden was right: it's time to shitcan the Judiciary Committee charade and go straight to a Senate floor vote from now on.
