Ordinarily I don't pay much attention to speeches, especially those of the presidential variety. I have heard Jack Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, William F. Buckley, Robert F. Kennedy on a good day... and via technology MacArthur, Churchill, and other great speakers who were also great thinkers and writers.
The talents of President George Bush are to be found elsewhere outside this august group, but he rose to the occasion this morning in his address to the band of hooligans we call the United Nations.
Clear, concise, organized, forceful, plain-spoken... the 43rd President of the United States has never been better on the dais.
To all citizens of the Middle East Bush said:
"... Extremists in your midst spread propaganda claiming that the West is engaged in a war against Islam. This propaganda is false, and its purpose is to confuse you and justify acts of terror. We respect Islam, but we will protect our people from those who pervert Islam to sow death and destruction. Our goal is to help you build a more tolerant and hopeful society that honors people of all faiths and promote the peace."
"... To the people of Syria: Your land is home to a great people with a proud tradition of learning and commerce. Today your rulers have allowed your country to become a crossroad for terrorism. In your midst, Hamas and Hezbollah are working to destabilize the region, and your government is turning your country into a tool of Iran. This is increasing your country's isolation from the world. Your government must choose a better way forward by ending its support for terror, and living in peace with your neighbors, and opening the way to a better life for you and your families."
No one except the Kool-Aid drinkers of the left, those with such pathological hatred of the man, can find fault... that, of course, describes House Speakerwannabe, Cut and Run Jack Murtha, and others who will no doubt denigrate the speech... or possibly in the POTUS tie selection. They'll be scuttling around for the next 48 hours, trying to do their worst to work against the aims of the United States.
Nonetheless, Bush's ratings are up and the pre-election polls seemed to indicate the fickle American voter, as usual, takes right up to the election day to make up their minds, to finally lean towards one party of the other.
Of course we all know that people lie to pollsters and polls are rigged and slanted and manipulated.. the only poll that counts is the one the morning after. The GOP will retain its edge in Congress and the cut and run dems will be whipped again in '08.
Deserters... the new "victims":
It seems that little Spec. Suzanne Swift has a problem. Claiming serial "sexual harassment" during a previous tour of Iraq as a member of a military police unit, she decided on the eve of her second deployment that she preferred life as a coward.
"I can't do this," she told her mummy. "I can't go."
She didn't. The Army called the cops, the cops came and now Suzie faces a court-martial for deserting during time of war.
And the rest of the story is typical... "feminists" have come out of the woodwork pushing this young dumbass forward as the latest poster-girl for the sex crime industry. Every anti-war. anti-military, and anti-Bush operative in the world is clambering for a piece of Swift for their own selfish purposes.
According to the WaPo sob story carrying Swift's water, just about everywhere Swift went in the Army she was sexually harassed... of the three incidents she gave for as her reason for going AWOL, two could not be substantiated and the third resulted in disciplinary measures against a sergeant.
The incident was so terrible she continued to have sex with him for seven months. "I didn't want to have sex with him," she told the WaPo. "I didn't like him." But she said she feared retaliation if she refused. "I had a choice," she acknowledges, "but it wasn't much of a choice."
So there didn't seem to be a problem until she was ordered to ship out... all of a sudden the little princess who said she chose to be an MP because she didn't think she'd have to go to Iraq, decided that she had been sexually harassed.
Yeah, she was 21, armed with a 9mm pistol and an M-16, had the chain of command and the UCMJ on her side... but there was just nothing she could do. Riiight.
After she chose to desert, her mommy immediately took her to a psychotherapist who specialized in diagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder related to the alleged sexual offenses. (The Swifts are shown left... the obviously PhotoShopped picture from her website designed to squeeze about 30 pounds off each.)
According to Swift, the therapist determined that she did not have the full-blown disorder (no kidding), but did show stress disorder symptoms.Of course the obvious arises... she spent a year in a war zone, thus any PTSD symptoms cannot be distinguished as being the result of "sexual harassment" or war.
Boy, if the Army only had more young hard chargers like her.
All her supporters want her to be honorably discharged and released from active duty.
The Army told her civilian attorney it doesn't negotiate with deserters.

OMG! What is with that giant tattoo on her chest? Egads! That ought to look nice on her when she gets to be about 70. LMAO!
