Not that most of America would know, but our Marines have launched a major offensive in the Helmand River Valley of southern Afghanistan
The 4,000-strong 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB), has targeted Taliban insurgents who have seized control of the major villages and provinces.
Utilizing a strategy used by the First Marine Div. late in the in Vietnam War --Combined Unit Pacification Program (CUPP) and Combined Action Platoon (CAP)—the Marines will disperse into designated towns and villages where they will build and live in small outposts among the local population.
Rather than traditional hunt and kill tactics, the Marines will restore Afghan government control and service; they will no doubt conduct “winning the hearts and minds” programs. Read more here.
My guess is that UAV Predator drones will have an even greater presence in the theater due to the formidable terrain the Marines face.
And not that our great military would be recognized by the Commander-in-Chief… we won the Iraq War.
Just for the record… Obama attempted to undermine the war effort and ridicule the Commander-in-Chief in what has proved to be a very successful and economical feat of arms that brought a burgeoning democracy to the Middle East.
Here’s some of what Obama has had to say from 2002 until he took the oath:
- (On the “surge”) “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is (sic) going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse.”
- Saddam can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.
- a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences.
- the invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.
The question now is how long will he conduct operations in Afghanistan as casualties mount?

(IsraelNN.com) -- U.S. President Barack Obama’s policies have left an Israeli attack on Iran the only option in preventing the Muslim country from obtaining a nuclear weapon, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton wrote in The Washington Post Thursday.
Bolton is one of the unrepentant, stand up people inside the Beltway… the GOP is in shambles and can’t find its collective 6 with both Obama-shaken hands.
Look for Israel to finally lock and rock… not only is the President an anti-Semite, he is indecisive, timid, and just doesn’t want to “meddle” in Iran’s affairs while the mullahs crush dissent, after stealing the presidential election (see: Franken, Al).
However Obama has no trouble “meddling” in other nation’s affairs by supporting the former “democratically elected” president of Honduras who attempted to set himself up as president-for-life.
The die is cast…. we’ve elected a Marxist and for the first time since 1775, the world is without the booming voice of a democracy demanding liberty and freedom for all who seek it.
That in itself should be an impeachable offence.
Bolton somberly concludes:
Bolton wrote that negotiations with Iran would place Israel in “an even more dangerous trap."
Failure to stage a pre-emptive attack on Iran means that the world must “be prepared for an Iran with nuclear weapons, which some, including Obama advisers, believe could be contained and deterred,” Bolton reasoned. “That is not a hypothesis we should seek to test in the real world. The cost of error could be fatal.”

Update… Obama has lost two million jobs since taking office. Through last month, the nation’s unemployed rose to a 26-year high of 9.6 percent.
But that’s nothing compared to the metro areas controlled by democrats; Detroit, for example, is 15 percent.
