Try as I might it is hard to keep up with the myriad disasters which we're forced to join, in progress, as soon as we wake up each morning.
LM31, as faithful readers know, does not whine; I'm just admitting that it's hard to do little more than comment here and there as Titanic 2009 steams on; readers also know that I'm not an hysteric, but I am convinced we will not see the return of anything close to normalcy for years, not months.
As I worried a few days ago, Israel is already considering a "cease fire" (sic), or as the ragheads call it, "time to reload"; Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is making sounds that he's willing to agree in [principle to a cease-fire.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy then told Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert: "You have to say that in these conditions you are ready to accept a cease-fire, which means a withdrawal from Gaza, and you have to do it now," added the official, who asked not to be named.
"Olmert told Sarkozy: 'If Mubarak does that then I will immediately announce a cease-fire and a withdrawal in principle, but I want to open talks with Egypt on the Philadelphi corridor (along the border between Egypt and Gaza)'," the official said.
President-lite Obama remains AWOL on Israel's needed beat down of the Hamas sub-humans; he hides behind the "we don't have two presidents at the same time" claptrap. An American president-elect worthy of the office would issue a statement of support of our beleaguered ally and our president.
His silence can only mean one thing... this socialist empty suit will undermine our 60-year support of our only Middle East ally.
Our own government continues to be run by idiots... of all stripes, colors and political affiliations. Right now the only difference between the United Sates and the Boy Scouts of America is that the scouts have adult supervision.

The Seattle P-I reports:
Robert Prince, the Seattle native and Army Ranger captain who led a daring mission to liberate Allied prisoners of war that became known as "The Great Raid," passed away New Years Day in Port Townsend, Washington.
He was 89.
His successful January 1945 raid of the POW compound near the town of Cabanatuan, Philippine Islands, in the waning months of the war likely saved the lives of 571 prisoners, many survivors of the infamous Bataan Death March.
The raid was fraught with urgency. It had to be quickly and stealthily carried out behind enemy lines, because the Japanese War Ministry had issued a "kill all policy" to cover up war crimes by executing "witnesses"--in this case, prisoners.
Before the Cabanatuan raid was carried out, prisoners in a camp near Palawan were drenched with aviation fuel and burned alive.
For his actions, the 25-year-old Prince was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's second-highest award for valor.
Prince is representative of virtually all true heroes... for more than six decades he deflected the credit for the valor he and his Rangers during the life-saving raid.
His admiration, he always said, was for those he helped to liberate. They included many who had survived the Bataan Death March from the war's beginning through years of captivity.
In an Apr. 16, 1945 interview Prince gave to the P-I while home on leave, he said:
"People everywhere thank me. I think the thanks should go the other way. I'll be grateful the rest of my life that I had a chance to do something in this war that was not destructive. Nothing for me can ever compare with the satisfaction I got from freeing those men."

The Bataan Death March has haunted me since I was a child, I read as many books as I could find on it; which led me to accounts of the massive war crimes committed by the Japs.
I hate them and the current Japanese leaders and fascists who have refused for more than 70 years to fully acknowledge and pay complete reparations for their hideous, sub-human behavior.
I wish we'd had a third atomic bomb... and used it.
August 6 and 9 should be national holidays.
The average American, if he cares at all, is largely ignorant of Jap atrocities, while he generally is aware of the Nazis' Final Solution.

But while Nazi scientists like Josef Mengele conducted hideous experiments on concentration camp prisoners, their lesser-known Japanese counterparts, led by Gen. Shiro Ishii (a physician), below, were waging full-scale biological warfare and subjecting human beings to ghastly experiments of their own -- and on a far greater scale than the Germans.
''Imagine hundreds of Mengeles,'' said Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, who has been calling on the Japanese to face up to their past as openly as the Germans have.
Ping Fan, built by General Ishii, the mastermind of Japanese germ warfare and its infamous Unit 731, was a camp of plague-bearing fleas, rat cages and warrens for human guinea pigs. Changchun, 150 miles south, was another huge installation for germ tests on plants, animals and people.
The below photo is of one such horror being conducted inside Unit 731 which was staffed by 3,000 medical research personnel, many recruited from Japan's top institutions of higher learning.

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center wrote about one of the chief Japanese war criminals:
What if there was no Nazi hunter like Simon Wiesenthal to pursue the perpetrators of genocide? What if the U.S. bartered Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengeles' freedom in return for the results of his horrific experiments? What if postwar Germany had installed top Nazi doctors in the National Institutes of Health or as deans in leading medical schools or as surgeons general of the new German defense forces?
Meet Toshimo Mizobuchi, an energetic 76-year-old, who lives near Kobe.... He is organizing this year's reunion of several hundred surviving veterans of the Japanese Army's Unit 731.
And while Mengele--The Angel of Death--called his gruesome experiments Artzvorstellern ("medical checkups"), Ishii designated his victims as muralas or "logs," a joke that originated when the Japanese told the local Manchurians that
the Unit 731 facility was being built as "a lumber mill."
Unit 731's victims are still nothing more than "logs" to Mizobuchi.
More than 10,000 Chinese civilians and allied prisoners of war were made turned into human guinea pigs by Unit 731.
They were vivisected without anesthesia and then dispatched by lethal injection.
Other experiments involved tying victims to stakes and bombarding them with shrapnel laced with gangrene; inserting them in pressure chambers to see how much their bodies could take before their eyes exploded; they were periodically drenched in water in subzero weather to determine their susceptibility to hypothermia and frostbite.
Three large incinerators disposed of the corpses, which burned quickly because the internal organs had been removed.
The 1999 Times article adds:
