There was a time when American citizens, even children, took war seriously. There were backouts, air raid wardens, civil defense directors, and your average fifth grader could sort out American aircraft from those of the Axis powers by merely looking at paper shilloutes.
Now, despite the fact that World War IV began almost five years ago, the vast majority of US citizens walk around like the extras in Dawn of the Dead... except the zombies were more highly motivated. Some of us have personally been at war since the Islamo-Nazi subhumans mass murdered 3,000 in the the WTC, the Pentagon and in a field in rural Pennsylvania.
Yet some, including my own family and friends here and there, wonder why I am "so angry." This used to baffle me, I wondered why everyone didn't want to bring death and destruction to our enemies; but then I remembered... wars in this country are always fought by a tiny fraction of those willing to prepare and die if necessary while the rest of the slackers, freeloaders and cowards sit around complaining about gasoline prices while distracting themselves with critical issues such as "global warming"... oh, and American Idol.
Today the typical American doesn't even have the motivation to understand what is happening right before their eyes... they want to know what the "exit strategy" is for our war in Iraq and Afghanistan.... makes me laugh. If it isn't there it'll be somewhere else... and for a very long time.
What, who is Hezbollah or Hamas.... is the Party of God Lebanese? Does Iran pull the Hezbollah strings in Lebanon with remote controlled management from Syria?
Quick! Where is the highest concentration of Hezbollah activity in the United States....?
I'll wait.
Detroit. As in Michigan. Motor City, USA... home of the Tigers, Lions and MoTown... and... raghead subhuman rat bastard terrorists who need to be rounded up, jailed in GitMo and if I had my pref.... shot on sight. Think not? Ok, let's wait until they murder your aunt Blanche and then you can Mirandize 'em and get 'em a public defender... no wait, the ACLU's already got that covered.
Make no mistake.. in the erupting front against evil in Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank, the Israelis are fighting our war against our enemy, just as much as they are fighting for their own survival. This front must expand and advance to a much-needed conclusion: the eradication (read: killing) of all terrorists within missile range of any Israeli citizen.
Peace is not the absence of war, it's the terms dictated by the victor.
We must back Israel to the hilt... that part of the sword that keeps your hand off the blade. Everything at our disposal should be available to our friends and allies... air power, sub-borne cruise missiles, an outer ring to the Israeli Navy's blockade already in force. You come too close, you die; you fire a missile at our ship, you die... Lebanon, Syria, Iran... doesn't matter.
We must not make the mistakes we've made over and over in Iraq... in particular, Fallujah. The Marines were set to crush the bastards and were called off by the ninnies in the Bush Administration... history proves this happens to jarheads a lot... lives sacrificed for politics. Israel does it the right way.... "Attention all civilians.... you have 24 hours to leave. One minute after that deadline, everything in your (pick one: building, neighborhood, community, province, country) will be vaporized. That is all. Have a nice day."
Most Americans, confronted with stick-the-bayonet-in-and-twist warfare, cower; they want the United Nations to do "it"; of course the UN means, US, doesn't it? Besides, they have no idea what "it" is... they're like little children playing "peek-a-boo"; when they close their eyes, they really think you go away.
Quick... how many people you know personally in the United States military?
I'll wait.
In my small family there is one... my nephew, Air Force SSgt Caleb Antrim, a career intel/ordinance airman of whom I am very proud. If it were not for women and men like him, the Red States in this country, the small town values... especially in the former Confederate States, we wouldn't have a military.
Like all the slugs who want electricity at the flip of a switch, but want the power plant somewhere else... it's called NIMBY... not in my back yard. In time of war most of your friends and neighbors embrace NWMK, or, not with my kid.
Why in hell is your nephew's life more important than mine? Guess what... it ain't.
All this is why I respect and admire the Israelis and why God loves them... every man and woman a rifleman, steeped in their history, their nation and a heavily-muscled will to survive and never, never forget. We must stand with them now and forever.
This is not a clash of civilizations, this is a war for civilization. We are civilized and must prevail; the way we insure that is getting knee-deep in the blood of our enemies for the duration.... plus six months.
If you disagree, at least have the common sense to shut your g-damned pie hole; and if you interfere, we'll gladly put you in the cell with Achmed.
Our very survival is at stake. You will not be allowed to undermine this fight much longer.
Just watched "Obsession" so this post is very timely. It's linked now all over, worth an hour of your time.

Sir, I understand so clearly your family and friends not being able to understand your ANGER, my country was attacked, my countrymen died, for no reason, except that some fucking Islamofascist wanted them to die. My beloved stepson is now a Major in the Army, stationed in Germany, 1 tour in Iraq, 1 in Saudi during Gulf War I. My father retired after 20 in the USMC in 1968 after returning from 'Nam. My oldest (27) cannot understand my anger and frustration, my baby at 17, although she doesn't look like it, is a raging conservative, understanding that we are at war, and doing her best to educate her friends.
I muddle along, trying to talk to people who believe American Idol is more important than what is going on in Israel, the frustration is intense, but I keep on, trying to educate teens, one at a time, to educate friends, one at a time, and knowing that only when WE as a nation believe this is a WAR WE MUST WIN, will we stand a chance. Thanks for expressing much of what I think, and making it available to those of us looking for others who understand.

The above assertion is confirmed by my very own supervisor at work, Mr. M. Zahringer, who not only grew up in Motown but has just returned this very day from a "vacation" in that area. Not only are the faithful called to prayers by loudspeaker, he reports, but he points out that Arabs are practically the ONLY operators of stores and businesses left within the city limits of Detroit.
Why? Because (his words) THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT AFRAID OF ANYTHING! (emphasis added). Guess there is no such thing as a bad neighborhood if it belongs to you.
Why should I or you believe Mr. Z? Because in way too many other respects, he is an apologetic liberal who sees the war in Iraq as a distraction from, rather than an integral part of, the REAL war (N. Korea, Iran, Syria, etc.) "Bush is a liar..." Yada, yada, yada. I like the guy personally, but we only talk politics if I wish to giggle at his own caricature.
My point: If a guy with such contorted political thinking and who is at the other end of the spectrum can actually find a common area of agreement with our host commentator here, it is already much later than we think.
