Most people, let alone a politician, let alone a green politico in a national campaign, couldn't have gotten away with what Sarah Palin got away with last night.
As faithful readers will recall, I don't watch these sideshows because they aren't debates; I rely on the high(?)lights the next day.
Therefore... won, lost? Irrelevant. Palin came across as comfortable and confident; and based on a good strategy, she ignored Biden and the moderator... talking right past them, into the camera, to the American public.
In her column today Peggy Noonan liked the strategy, despite "... moments when she seemed to be doing an infomercial pitch for charm in politics. But it was an effective infomercial."
Likewise, Charles Krauthhammer today credits Palin's telegenic appeal with giving a much needed jolt to Maverick's campaign which has been headed south at the same rate that Palin's acceptance speech began to fade from memory.
But, he accurately sees The One as having settled into a smart strategy of sitting on the lead and not making any major blunders.
Talk about Teflon, absolutely nothing sticks to Obama in the journalism-free zone that surrounds him. A psychotic, racist mentor who indoctrinated him for 20 years... no stick; terrorists... nope, campaign and cash irregularities..nada, failure to release medical records... hardly, buying his home at a fire sale price from a racketeer...not even; not to mention surviving a shrewish wife who has (wisely) been put on ice at an secret, undisclosed location until Nov. 5.
So, where are we.... seventh inning and still three down, from my bleacher seat.
We live in an era where substance means little to nothing, the public as the attention span of a sixth grader except when it comes to something very serious like American Idol or Iron Chef, ACORN will pull off the biggest election fraud since the early 1800s, and America has begun to nationalize the free market.
Oh yes, this will be remembered America's Gold Age.
Kelsey Grammer, co-star of the Zucker film "An American Carol" and a rare conservative in show biz, was a good interview on Glenn Beck this a.m.; "Sad to say, Osama bin Laden is the only person in the last eight years who has brought American together."
He also had a good take on Hollywood's BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) as well, saying he hasn't had a coherent, non-embittered conversation with fellow actors about the country since Bush was elected.
In case you haven't see this, here's the link to the Obama Youth singing praises to their leader... note a couple of things as you fight to retain your sanity. I). The professional way this was shot... word is an NBC higher up is directly involved. 2). The reaction of the Commies parents at The Peoples' Collective School Sector Four. 3). And the speed freak choir director.
Children of the Corn? Village of the Damned? The Bad Seed? The Omen?
I'll see your Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and raise you three Stepford Wives.
You should have watched, GA. It was painful. Hap and Sterner got it right. When Say-RAH pens her obligatory political biography, it should be titled "None Dare Call It Pandering."

Some wag called it right the other day in the paper: "Gidget Goes to Washington".

IF..Sarah Palin does reach the VP's office, among her primary duties will be to represent the President and the nation in multiple and varied visits at home and abroad with foreign dignitaries and heads of state. I wonder how that "wink" will settle their nerves and win them over? And her folksy talk...enduring sure...but far from what we want in those who represent us:
“Let me tell ya…Prime Minister *****, ya ain’t got nothin’ to worry about. Sarah “Six Pack” is working hard with John McCain and were-a-gonna fix that for ya. Oh, and with regard to that...er...your question about what the U.S. is going to do about that itsy-bitsy problem that's got your shorts in a knot...Why, when I was a mayor and a governor we did...well, you know...and anyway, I'll get back to ya on that one." (Thumbs up, wink, wink!)
